Firm History
Joseph G. Nicholas founded the HFR business in 1992 with Hedge Fund Research, Inc. and has since been an industry leader and innovator in hedge fund data, research, and indices.
In the late 1990s, Mr. Nicholas launched HFR Asset Management, LLC to create hedge fund products and introduced the first transparent hedge fund investment platform, offering daily position-level reporting and third-party pricing. Subsequently, HFR Asset Management became a provider of the first investable hedge fund indices.
In 2010, HFR Asset Management expanded its reach globally by launching an Irish management company and Irish domiciled managed account platform to be used by major European and Asian allocators, which has since been expanded to all major markets.
In January of 2020, Michael Arenibar, (following 15 years of experience with HFR Asset Management) founded and launched HFR Investments, LLC, an investment adviser established with the vision of bringing diversity and ESG initiatives to hedge funds and HFR’s investment products.
